Financial Literacy for Women by Ameena Rey-Franc: “Be a SheFO”.
What is a She FO? And are you one?
A woman naturally becomes the CFO of her family and herself by taking on the essential tasks of managing household finances including budgeting, saving, investing, paying bills, and planning for retirement and education. This role often evolves as she ensures financial stability, seeks additional income, and educates financial matters.
When she embodies these responsibilities, she becomes the SheFO (She Financial Officer), highlighting her pivotal role in guiding the family’s financial well-being as well as her own.

Become A SheFO -Start, Plan, and Win Your Financial Future
Insular Life and I have partnered to conduct a She FO Financial Literacy Seminar for Women, designed to provide you with the knowledge and tools to achieve financial independence and success. This is a 3-part series (Start, Plan, and Win your Financial Future) held at Ayala, Cebu on how you can be an effective SheFO while achieving the life that you’ve always desired!

What You’ll Learn:
The seminars below have a progressive flow. These are not just a list of topics but are a structured path from recognition to implementation to success.
Seminar #1 She Starts: Nurturing Financial Values Towards Shaping a Resilient Mindset. This is the basis. Before women can practice money management efficiently, they must have the right mindset, and hold the right belief system first. This is where we’ll learn to build a strong character that can face hardships and acquire habits that will help us in the long run.
Seminar #2 She Plans: Strategies for Women to Achieve Positive Cash Flow: When the right mindset has been established, the next step is to put it into action. Planning is about gaining the knowledge and practical ways of budgeting, controlling your expenses, and having a positive cash flow. This phase converts the mindset (Seminar #1) into actual financial habits and strategies.
Seminar #3 She Wins: Winning the Money Game by Building a Rock-Solid Financial Foundation The last stage touches on attainment of concrete results. After the values are nurtured and the strategies applied, we can now construct a solid financial foundation, make savvy investment choices and increase our wealth.

Why Women in the Philippines Need to learn Financial Literacy
Today, it is incredibly important for women to learn how to handle their finances. As someone who is now a mom and a wife, I truly believe that money influences almost every part of our lives. Here are several reasons:
First, women make many major decisions at home. From paying the bills and managing expenses to planning for the future, financial skills help us make confident and informed decisions.
Second, women face unique financial challenges. On average, women live longer, which means a longer retirement to prepare for. We are also usually the default parent when one needs to care for the children thus, we go through a career pause. Having a solid financial plan ensures long term security and peace of mind.
Third, financial independence gives freedom. There is a special kind of confidence that comes from being able to support yourself and make choices without being limited by money. If you want to start a business venture without touching you and your spouse’s joint finances, you have your own money to do so. If you want to enroll your kids in extra curricular activities that are out of the household budget, you may still have the extra finances of doing so. If you are in an abusive relationship, having your own money let’s you walk away and ensure your safety.
Having your own money is empowering. It allows us women to live life on their own terms and escape a situation we despise.
Lastly, when women understand finances, they influence their families and communities in a positive way. They become role models not just for their kids but for the next generation.
These are my personal reasons, and they’re exactly why I believe financial literacy for women is so important. This is why I was so ecstatic to team up with Insular Life (Inlife Sheroes) and make this finlit series possible!
