52-Week Money Saving Challenge Philippines (FREE Printable Trackers)

Did you know that most people can’t pay in cash for a vacation? Some can’t even cover an emergency expense? According to a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas survey in 2014, only 1 in 4 Filipino households has savings. It’s a sad reality that we have one of the lowest savings rates in Southeast Asia.

The reality is most people don’t save.

Why?

For the simple reason that it is way more fun to spend money than to save money.

While these statistics are quite despairing, it doesn’t have to be your reality. You can absolutely avoid being in this situation. YOU CAN BE DIFFERENT! Plus, being different with saving money is awesome, don’t you think?

The Real world of Adulting: Saving is a must!

Since everyone is wired differently and we are all at a different point of our money journey, The Thrifty Pinay decided to lay out different 52 week Money Saving Challenges.

In this way, you can decide on what fits your personal finance situation the best.

It’s amazing how a measly P10 or P20 can add up to a huge amount over time.

You can go as low as P1 or as high as… well, whatever amount you are capable of setting aside – then slowly increase the amount you are saving week by week until you reach your 52nd week.

Yes, you are allowed to choose any amount you deem fit for saving. That’s because the last thing I would want us to feel with this challenge is feeling restrictive.

Why the need for a 52-Week Money Saving Challenge?

1. Everyone is up for a challenge

Simply put, everyone wants to prove to themselves that they can accomplish a challenge, especially if you have a savings buddy and you turn it into a friendly competition. Let the games begin!

Also, time and time again has shown that a lot of people have successfully accomplished this challenge, no matter what adulting age group they are in.

3 ways to complete the 52- WEEK MONEY SAVING CHALLENGE

January is usually the month wherein most money challenges start because that’s when people start making resolutions.

However, you can start whenever you want to. Yes! You don’t need to pressure yourself, my friend. You can start whenever you want to. But in all honesty, it is still best to start saving NOW!

But to be successful at the end of 52 weeks, you need to find a method of saving that works best for you.

Remember, the 52-week money saving challenge is about creating new habits of saving money.

1. Do it IN ORDER

The premise behind the 52-Week Money Saving Challenge is simple. Get the ball rolling by slowly increasing the amount you are saving every week.

For example, you chose the increments of P50. The first week requires you to put away P50 for savings, second week is P100, third week is P150 and so on until you reach your 52nd week where you need to stash P2,600. That’s a total of P68,900 for the whole year.

2. Reverse Order

This method is what I like best since you will be saving the highest amount on the first week, gradually decreasing your amount as the weeks pass by. Use the Reverse Increments of 50 Printable above.

So with using the increments of P50, my first week will require me to save P2,600 and only P20 on the 52nd week. Still, a total of P68,900 for the whole year.

The Reverse 52-Week money Saving challenge Method is great because you get the heavy lifting done early in the challenge while your momentum is still running high.

3. Hacked Method

This type is for those who want to save, but on their own terms! Use the Blank PDF 52 Week Money Saving Challenge printable above if you wish to use a different currency or increment.

Let’s say you got a bonus or you earned big time on your side hustle, or more money was saved than you thought you could have saved, then cross off the higher amounts to be saved throughout the year.

Tip: You don’t have to start any of the money saving challenges on the first week. Just pick a date and start saving.
